Low Volume Molded Plastic Parts for High End Tables

Herman Miller offers the Polygon Wire Table in three different styles, each with at least three different standard color options, which is great for their customers, but difficult from a production standpoint.

The annual sales volumes are nowhere near high enough to justify a hard tooling investment, dedicated production line, and the frequent change-overs that would be required to fill the color variations. Instead, we make these connectors on an as-needed basis using low-cost silicone tooling, which allows us to quickly fill orders with urethane parts. This manufacturing process with a flexible tool allows a unique design with multiple undercuts that would not be possible through traditional plastic injection molding.
