Reverse engineering is a multi-step process of creating 3D CAD data from existing products. This is typically a legacy project that does not have the necessary digital CAD data needed to reproduce or change an existing product. This process is often used for clients that have old products that need to be re-tooled, or who acquired physical product lines or equipment without the needed 3D CAD data. Even when a product is developed from a physical model such as clay, wood, or similar technique that now needs to be documented or tooled.
