Nelson Swag Chair Reintroduction

Starting with an original chair and information on the reintroduced Eames chairs by Herman Miller the team went to work. Broadview sent the original chair to a company specializing in 3D scanning. They provided a surface file. Broadview then created parametric data using the scan data as a reference. During this process the parts were slightly redesigned for the injection molding process and new material, without compromising the original design esthetic.

The parts where also changed to incorporate a mechanical connection between the seat and the back. Broadview then did a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to apply material properties and loads to evaluate the strength and deflection. The FEA was used to verify that the chair would have a similar feel as the original. Broadview also used an injection molded Eames chair to produce a prototype for the team at Herman Miller to evaluate before investing in production tools.

Just as Broadview helped Herman Miller reintroduce the Nelson Swag Leg Chair, we can help your company with any or all of your product development needs. Broadview has many years of product development experience. We specialize in development utilizing engineering and prototyping. The Nelson Swag Leg Chair is available for purchase from Herman Miller Inc.www.hermanmiller.com
